The key functions of the network protection module within the Astaro Security Gateway are to:

Control network access - using the latest stateful deep inspection firewall techniques to control user access in regard to specific information, access times and usage of IM and P2P applications.
  
Stop intruders - through state of the art intrusion prevention for in-depth filtering, protecting against more than 6,000 attacks as well as zero day attacks.
  
Enable secure remote access - using SSL, IPSec, L2TP or PPTP to create secure virtual private networks, connecting branch offices and granting remote access to workers.
  
Optimise performance - leveraging a content inspection framework to scan traffic with little or no latency, and prioritise bandwidth for time-sensitive applications such as VoIP.

Astaro Network Protection includes all the components above within the base license, and allows seamless integration with three optional subscriptions that are included in the product and can be unlocked and used immediately via a license key.  These are:  Web Filtering, Email Filtering and Email Encryption.
