SMS Strong Authentication

SecurAccess from SecurEnvoy - Transforms any phone that can receive text messages into an authentication device

SecurAccess allows organisations to provide staff with strong two-factor authentication without the hassle and costs of deploying hardware tokens such as those from RSA.

SecurAccess leverages directory technologies such as Microsoft Active Directory, Novell E-Directory, Sun Directory Server and OpenLDAP, with a simple integration process that requires no schema changes.  And because additional databases aren't used, organisations see benefits in reduced costs and support.

Using SMS technology rather than software on the handset eliminates complex testing, support and training issues.  And with the constantly changing phone OS' and interfaces that appear with each new model, this becomes increasing important.

The key drawbacks that were initially found when looking to SMS for authentication were intermittent network coverage and SMS delivery delays.  In order to build a robust enterprise solution, these challenges had to be addressed.  SecurAccess is designed to resolve these issues through the ability to:

  • Pre-load one-time passcodes, with each authentication attempt sending the next required passcode
  • Send three pre-loaded one-time passcodes with each message (3 authentications before the next message is required)
  • Allow reusable session passcodes that change each day or multiple days
  • Provide an optional self-help web interface that allows users to request temporary passcodes
  • Send passcodes via email

End user experience

Good security doesn't need to add complexity!  SecurAccess is designed to make authentication easy for users through:

  • Reusing the existing Microsoft (or alternate directory) password as the PIN, meaning users have one less secret to remember
  • Dynamically updating the previous SMS message, no need to delete old text messages

SecurAccess seamlessly integrates with manyleading remote access servers and web services including Microsoft OWA, Citrix, Juniper, Cisco and many others.
