The Sophos Anti-Virus Interface (SAVI) is specifically designed to meet the needs of the firewall, web content and email content management  markets. The technology brings Sophos's 15 years of anti-virus expertise to many applications, including Web browsers, FTP clients, installation and backup applications.

SAVI's multi-threading DLL-based virus database technology typically increases performance over traditional command-line scanners up to thirty-fold. Whilst competitors are catching on, Sophos' experience (having developed their first DLL-based interface over six years ago) combined with pre-emptive multi-threading, Sophos's SAVI still outclasses the competition in performance.

In using a single copy of the virus database to process all requests in a multi-threading environment, SAVI eliminates the memory constraints associated with command-line scanners, which reserve memory each time they initialise as well as performance degradation found in DLL scanners that do not have multi-threading capabilities.

More than fast, the reliability of SAVI in a third-party environment is outstanding. It highlights that Sophos is one of the few AV vendors that truly understands how to operate in pre-emptive multi-tasking environments.

SAVI is installed as part of Sophos Anti-Virus and provides comprehensive reporting of any virus incident.

A wide range of industry-standard firewalls, gateways and similar applications have been designed to integrate with Sophos Anti-Virus. SAV Interface provides these third-party solutions with a high-performance channel into the Sophos virus detection and disinfection engine. Customers who use this type of SAV Interface compliant product will receive technical support from Sophos, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
