Astaro Mail Gateway a Low-Cost Alternative

Currently the only security vendor that provides email encryption free with its mail gateway.  The encryption runs transparently at the gateway, eliminating the need for employee action.  Removing individual employees from the encryption process significantly lowers the possibility that confidential data may accidentally be sent in plaintext across the Internet. Based on recognized standards, such as S/MIME, OpenPGP, and TLS, Astaro’s encryption also allows for scanning of encrypted emails for malware.

While most mail security solutions offer traditional anti-spam technologies, Astaro goes a step further by integrating patented, reputation-based filtering to significantly enhance spam detection while minimizing the misclassification of legitimate emails as spam. In addition to superior spam recognition, Astaro is one of the only solutions that also provides two parallel virus scanners in its mail gateway, blocking traffic in SMTP and POP3 emails. The two scanners receive virus pattern updates independently of each other, reducing reaction time in the event of a new malware outbreak. The solution also provides protection against phishing attacks.

Remote access security allows mobile users to enjoy the benefits of the Astaro Mail Gateway while on the road. Astaro allows users web-based access to their Exchange mailbox with their Outlook client from any location via a secure SSL-VPN connection. All Astaro Mail Gateway models also include single sign-on for both eDirectory and ActiveDirectory.

When comparing Astaro’s product to the competition, some differences are evident. All features are available in every model; Astaro does not remove functionality from lower end appliances to drive consumers to higher model units. Astaro understands that the SMB have the same security requirements as enterprise businesses, so features such as single-sign on and VPN connectivity are always available throughout the entire product line.
